Johnson C. Smith University is holding a poetry contest for our students:
Honoring Tradition, Inspiring Change
As part of Dr. Ron L. Carter’s inauguration celebration – Honoring Tradition, Inspiring Change – Johnson C. Smith University is holding a poetry contest to showcase the talent of our student body. The winner will recieve $150 and the chance to perform their poem as part of the inauguration celebration.
All current JCSU students are welcome to participate. To enter, simply write an original piece of poetry and turn it in to Ms. Barbara Malloy in the Student Activities Office, or e-mail it to studentactivities@jcsu.edu. Remember that ultimately your poem will be read aloud before an audience, so keep that in mind when creating the work, and envision your performance.
All entries must be turned in Monday, February 9, 2009.
Once entries have been turned in, a poetry contest will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2009. The entire student body will be invited to hear the poets perform their works and a panel of judges will choose the top five poets.
The day after the contest, videos of the top five performers will be uploaded to JCSU’s web site where all students will be able to watch the performances and pick the ultimate winner.
All current JCSU students are eligible to enter, but only one entry per student please. All poems will be reviewed and checked against current University Standards for civility and language. Writers whose poems do not fit current university standards will be given the opportunity to change them so they can also have a chance to compete. In other words, please make sure the language and spirit of your poem fits the tone of the contest; submit a poem that could be read aloud at Dr. Carter’s Inauguration.
Duration : 0:1:20
